There is a need to track trends in overdoses in real time in order to provide public health responses to areas in demand. Social media like Twitter has been identified as a means of tracking the opioid overdose epidemic. Crowdfunding can be considered social media. This is a preliminary report on Ohio crowdfunding opioid death memorial campaigns. Crowdfunding can do some monitoring of the Ohio opioid epidemic.
Greater Cincinnati Professional First Responders have been strained by increased numbers of opioid overdoses that involve multiple naloxone doses due to fentanyl analogs, risk of injury to responders, and refusal of treatment that could lead to repeat overdose and death. These First Responders would benefit from improved social media communication between nearby communities to review Opioid Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution (OEND) and related issues in order to solve problems on a timely basis. Greater Cincinnati OEND Online would be a social media platform providing a tool to fulfill this need for information exchange.
